Well boo-fucking-hoo

She is using stock photos! Scandalous!! She’s actually using resources for her art?!?!?!

But surprise surprise: MANY professional artists trace or use stock photos as help when they need to get a certain pose done in time.

Tracing is not violating copyright laws.

And sometimes, tracing is actually a way to train your hand muscles when drawing (with a pencil or tablet, NOT with a mouse). And the way this artist trace from the photo, she’s doing a really good job in adding her own touches and know how the folds on the clothes goes - just that shows that she has some skills.

Even I have traced from photos when making art. And it was all because I didn’t want to waste time finding a good pose and just get started practice on a certain area such as color and light; “Lovely Owl”,  ”The Floating Tundra” and “Luminescence” have all a base that is traced from a screenshot or a stock photo. It saved me time, and they all came out great and original enough to not look like the resource.

Does that make me a bad artist? Does that make me deserve less respect than others?

If you only knew how many artists you’d lose respect to for using reference photos as base. I mean, at least be happy that they don’t use shitty anime-traced-bases done in MSPaint with a mouse.

Every artist have their own technique. Deal with it.

Isn’t that the point of stock photos? I’m pretty sure if you can use them for photomanipulations, you can use them as a reference for poses. (I hope she gave credit though.)
